EMPIRE TOURNAMENT TEAM. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, December 2; The New Zealand Ladies’ Hockey Association recently approached the Government requesting a grant" of £750, to be added to £lOOO already raised by the Association for the purpose of sending a team to compete in the Empire Ladies’ Hockey Tournament in South Africa in July, August, and September of 1930. The Government’s reply, which has now been received, is to the effect that, owing to the additional burdens on the Consolidated Fund, it is unable to give a grant of the amount asked for. Unless the additional money required is raised by January 31, when, the entries for the tournament close, the tour will have to be abandoned. If a team is to be sent to South Africa, it will be selected from the following, who have been nominated by the selectors :—Goalkeeper, N. Huggins (Wellington) ; full-back, R. Burt (Southland), K.. Miller (Wellington), E. Brabazon (Ruahine), A. Bruere (Canterbury); halves : centre, P. Bakery (Ruahine), M. Dennis (Ruahine), right, E. Anderson (Ruahine), left, N. Thomas (Southland), M. Blagdon (Otago) ; forwards-: right wing, J. Burrows (Canterbury); left wing, H. Homer (Southland), F. Randle (Ruahine) ; inside forwards, J. Parsons (Canterbury), R. Loader (Ruahine), F. Schlutes (Canterbury), B. Millichamp (Canterbury), M. Mclntyre (Southland). CHAMPIONSHIP PROFITS. GISBORNE, December 3. The final figures in 'connection with the Dominion ladies hockey championships reveal a credit balance of £432, of which 25 per cent is retained by the Poverty Bay Association, ten per cent handed to the New Zealand Association while, the remainder £2BO will be distributed amongst the Associations represented.
