TRACK AND STABLE NOTES. Paganelli was considered to have a great chance in the Feilding Stakes on Saturday, and his defeat by Cimabue and Kaihbrb was more unexpected than had Ceremony been ahead of him. Taurau was so heavily backed to win the Ponui Handicap at Takapuna on Saturday that the second dividend ,he paid was a losing investment. \ Horomea met Elysianbr in the Waituna Hurdle Handicap at Feilding on Saturday on 61b better terms than when she ran a creditable race into third berth at the Auckland spring meeting. She was made favourite on Saturday, but Elysianor beat her by a head.

Prodice did not show up at Riccarton, but she had done well since, and it was therefore not unexpected- that she carried more support in the Alison Cup on Saturday than In the Shade, well-backed on account of his second to Chide in the New Zealand Cup. That Rabbi would be favourite for the Feilding Jubilee Cup was almost a foregone conclusion, but Talisker, Vertigern and Panther were well backed and the Paladin colt returned his supporters quite a good dividend. Mr J. P. Tierney’s Delightment, once a consistent winner, was awarded the prize for the best thoroughbred entire at the Whangarei A. and P. Show last week. The runner-up was Mr E. K. Plaisted’s Adjutant.

Jean M'Elwyn is racing consistently of late, but the Nelson Bingen mare seems to be very unlucky as she has paced into a place over all distances without' winning. She was within half a length of the winner when she ran third in the Forbury Handicap on Saturday. Kairuri, winner of the Tiri High Weight Handicap at Takapuna on Saturday, was the rank outsider in a field of eleven starters.

Trampfast’s brilliant performance in the President’s Handicap at Forbury Park on Thursday had the effect of making him a warm favourite in the principal two miles event on Saturday, when he just failed by a long neck to overtake Author Jinks.

Grecian, a three-year-old gelding by Lord Quex from Ennea, was amongst the competitors in the maiden hack event at the recent meeting of the Levin Racing Club, and it is considered, judging from his performance in that race, that he will not remain a maiden performer very long. He carries the same colours as Count Palatine and Vertigern.

Dilnon followed up his success in the St. Kilda Handicap on Thursday by winning the Empire Handicap on Saturday. On recent form he should have been better backed in the firstmentioned race, but he won it so easily that he was made favourite for the mile event on Saturday, which he won very easily. Dilnon is by Author Dillon. from Nonnie, who is a sister to the one time good pacer Nancy Stair, and is trained by C. S. Donald. Grand Canyon, a winner at the last trotting meeting at Greymouth, did not show good form at Wellington at the beginning of last month, but in the Progressive Handicap at Forbury Park on Thursday he made a good beginning and Donald kept him well out in the centre of the track, driving a most confident race. He had to be driven

hard in the concluding stages, but he finished soundly. He is a three-year-old by Wrack from Nell Pointer, and was purchased for a big figure from Mr H. F. Nicoll. In a mile and a-half event on Saturday, Grand Canyon was well backed, but ran unplaced. Golden Wedding ran unplaced in the Alison Cup on Saturday, it being her first flat race since the last summer meeting at Ellerslie. Owing to her vagaries at the barrier she had been on the schooling list and her activities had been confined to hurdle racing. With every effort over hurdles improvement had been noticed in the chestnut’s behaviour, and the officiating body of the Racing Conference recently notified Mr W. Taylor that his representative was again eligible for flat events. At the time of her dismissal from the flat ranks, Golden Wedding was performing with distinction, and as there is reason to believe the daughter of Kenilworth is still capable, she may not compete in hurdle races for the next few months.
