N.Z. GIRL’S SPRINT RECORD. (Per Press Association.) NAPIER, November 29. The world’s record for the ladies’ 50 yards sprint was lowered at Waipukurau this evening by Miss E. Hoyle, of Napier, her time being 6 l-10sei)s, t wfiich is 1-5 of a second better than the previous record, held by Miss Helen Filkey, of South Africa. Miss Hoyle ran against four, other ladies, to whom she conceded various starts, and she easily beat them. All the three watches made the time 6secs. dead, and a fourth watch 1-10 of a second longer, which is the time credited. Miss Hoyle set out with the idea of attacking the New Zealand record of 6 2-Ssecs., held by Miss Jackson, of Carterton. , -LATER. The track was specially surveyed for the attempt, and the race was run in a dead calm. Two watches (not three) recorded six seconds dead, .and two (not one) recorded 6 1-lOsecs. The latter time will be claimed as the world’s record.
