A HERO OF MONS
DEATH AT AGE OF 22 “Jack of Putney,” one of the dog heroes of the war, has died at the great age of 22. “Jack’s” part in the war was one of very real value. He did his bit by checking a great menace —the rat invasion. He killed more than 1000 rats. After taking part in the retreat from Mons and serving in the trenches for three years he was gassed and invalided home to England by aeroplane. ; After the war “Jack” was nursed back to health by his mistretss, Mrs Nora H. Kitchen, and settled down in Putney to the quiet life of a house dog. In his old age he became quite
gay . He joined the Tail Waggers’ Club, patronised by only the best canine society, including pets of the Prince of Wales, Princess Mary, Princess'Victoria, and the Queen of Norway. On his twenty-first birthday “Jack” had a real birthday cake with 21 candles and was “starred” in a film.
