The Treasurer (Mr Theodore) in the House introduced a Bill to amend the Commonwealth- Bank Act. The Bill empowers the Treasurer to authorise the bank to require 'any person to furnish particulars of gold coin and bullion held by him, and to require any person to exchange for Australian notes any gold coin and bullion held by him. v ' - . MINES RE-OPENING. SYDNEY, November 29. The Ministry has altered its plans regarding the Rothbury mine. If the present negotiations between the coal owners and miners fail, the State Ministry will proceed immediately with manning the colliery by free labour.
It is proposed to work through the Christmas season, -with the exception of Christmas Day.
Many applications have been received from skilled men.
