YEAR’S ATHLETIC CHAMPIONS.
The/ Greymouth Technical High School’s annual athletic championships were conceded yesterday when the 880 and 440 yards events were run on. at Victoria* Park. It was found impossible to run these during the school’s annual athletic meeting some weeks ago. « The 880 yards boys’ f senior championship was won by L. Wilson, with M. Collett second and R. Peek third, in 2min. 28 secs.; this time was considerably above the record, 2.11 1-5, established by S. Shuttleworth in 1927.
Wilson also won the 440 yards senior championship, with Collett and Peek second. Time Imin. 4-5 secs., which was 2 1-5 secs above A. Cox’s record (1924). This time, considering the nature of the track, was good. The half-mile boys’ junior championship yras won by A. R. Kibble, with W. Ashby 2, and R. Daniels 3, in 2min 56secs, as compared with R. Kay’s 1928 record of 2min. 31 secs. Kibble also won the 440 junior championship, with I. Leitch and W. Ashby second and third respectively. The time was 74secs, 7 4-5 secs above R. Kay’s 1928 record. Kibble won the 1929 junior athletic championship title, with 15 points; lan Leitch was runner-up with 14, and W. Ashby third, with 8 points. The boys’ senior championship was again won by Lawrence Wilson, who had 18 points on the runner-up, R. Leitch. Wilson’s total was 23, and Leitch’s 5.
The gilds’ senior athletic championship was won by Alva Newlands, with Marjorie East runner-up. The junior girls’ championship ended in three girls, Dorothy Bunt, Nellie McLean, and C. Armstrong, tieing for the title with 8 points each.
