REEFTON, November 28. Weather conditions at Reefton yes terday were'boisterous, and almost all day long thunder was reverberating through the hills. Up to 9 a.m. yesterday 1.95 inches of rain fell for the preceding 24 liotirs* 1 In consequence of the rain slips came down on the Maruia Road and held up the mail cars to Nelson, which eventually got through late. A slip on the Electric Light Company’s race cut the power off during part of the flay, but repairs were effected and the light came on in the afternoon. This morning at seven o’clock the weather showed signs of clearing. Mr and Mrs W. J. Duff, who have been on holiday at Wellington and Christchurch, returned on Tuesday. St, Stephen’s Girls’ Club held a wind-up dance in the bandroom on Tuesday evening. In spite of the wet weather there was a large attendance. Dancing was indulged in until a late hour. Mr W. Hunt was M.C. and there was no lack of pianists. During the many diversions was a competition for a necklace donated by a gentleman member of St. Stephen’s congregation. The name of the winner will not be made known until the end of the week. The annual general meeting of the Reefton Public Picnic Committee was held at the. Miners’ Union office last evening. Mr T. Williams occupied tlae chair, and before the business of the meeting commenced, referred to the death of Mr J. Warren, who had always been a generous and wholehearted supporter of the picnic. All present stood in silence as a mark of respect. The balance sheet, as submitted and approved, disclosed a credit balance. Mr D. McKane acted as secretary and was entrusted to draw up and forward lists to the collectors.
