HOKITIKA HARBOUR BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the abovenamed Board, was held yesterday afternoon. Present: Messrs J. J. McIntosh, D. P. Stewart, E. W. Heenan, W. E. Richards, Dr Teichelmann. Mr Mclntosh was voted to the chair. Before proceeding with the business on the motion of the Chairman, a vote of sympathy was passed to Mr Richards, who had suffered a double bereavement since last meeting. The motion was carried, the members standing. Mr Richards acknowledged the vote. „ Messrs Butler Bros, wrote informing the Board that part of the area known as Grove Swamp, 2098 acres has been sold to Flax Lands Development Ltd., Auckland, and that another 64 acres has also been sold to the same purchaser, and asking that the necessary adjustments be made in the Valuation Roll. The Signalman reported the bar in good order and from 10 to 13 feet of water. The action of the Chairman in arranging for a wedding gift to the signalman was approved.

HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL (Our Own Correspondent). HOKITIKA, November 9. The ordinary meeting of the Hokitika Borough Council was held last evening. Present. The Mayor (Mr. G. A. Perry), Crs. D. J. Evans, Jas. King, A. C. Armstrong, A- R- Elcock, E. W. Heenan, T. W. Duff. The absence of Crs. Dr. Teichelmann and J. L. Turner was apologised for. Mr. J. H. W. McGeorge, applied for water service connection to Section 910, Hampden Street. William Wilson, Agent for Miss F. A. Thompson, applied to subdivide Sections 900 and 901, Weld and Rolleston Streets, into Lot 1 and Lot'2, the former having a frontage of 200 links to Weld Street, and the latter a frontage of 101’ links to Rolleston Street. Public Works Dept., Wellington, advised that a subsidy of £l6O for maintenance on the Main Highway in the Borough had been approved being two pounds for one pound on a total maintenance expenditure of £240. —Received.

The Superintendent, State Advances Office, Wellington, notified under Section 46, State Advances Act, 1913, respecting Municipal Endowment Reserve No. 163/3, Koiterangi (G. L. Shannon, Lessee). —Received. W. Connor, slaughterman, abattoirs, wrote re annual leave. —Granted. Schoder and Co. wrote asking leave to construct a verandah at front of shop in Revell Street, and to stop traffic on footpath during construction.

The local Postmaster (Mr. Cox) stated that a new mail-loading front had been constructed, facing Gibson Quay, and asking the Council’s consent. —-It was resolved that the Council has not the power to grant permission. D. P. Stuart on behalf of the West Coast Wood Pulp Syndicate, wrote applying for lease of Howatt Square and reserve 150 and 152 for construction of wood pulp works. —It was resolved that the Council woulud charge rental at the rate of 5 per cent, of unimproved value plus rates, which would amount to about £l7 per annum. The Treasurer reported receipts £219/6/11; payment's £387/6/3; credit balance £521/18/4. Accounts amounting to £466/19/4 were passed for payment. The Mayor, Chairman of Finance Committee, and Town Clerk were appointed a committee to advise re collection of rates. The Abattoirs manager reported animals slaughtered during October: — 14. cows, 26 heifers, 63 bullocks, 215 sheep, 15. lambs, 8 pigs, 4 calves, condemned : 1 cow, 2 pigs. Fees received £62/1/-. Same period last year £57/ 14/6. The Overseer reported on works during the month, and that an average of 8 feet 2in of water in the reservoir. The foreman also reported that 24 chains had been completed of the Kanieri Lake pipe line. The recent bad weather had affected the progress. . '
