A Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde story has been revealed at the trial lasting a week, of Dumas, formerly Mayor of Bailleaul, who in the daytime was a sober, honest, bourgeois, pursuing a manufacturer’s business,, and devoting himself to his mayoral duties. In the course of eight years he / made the war-devastated Bailleaul one °b the most charming cities in Northern France* At night time, however, Dumas, became another man. Elegantly dressed he motored to Paris in the winter, and to Le Tourquet in the summer. He patronised the night clubs and expensive restaurants. He misappropriated £24,000 in three years. Failing to recoup his losses at gambling, he confessed everything. He was sentenced to five years imprisoflment. I
