OPERA HOUSE TO-NIGHT. Scenes for “The Water* Hole,’ screening at the Opera House to-night, were actually filmed in Arizona, the locale of the story. ' Jack Holt plays the leading role in this drama of society life’ in the cities and primitive life in the desert. SUNDAY BENEFIT. On Sunday night “Odds On” will be screened. With its bright, breezy atmosphere of the Australian turf the suggestion of thudding hoofs and flaqhi.ing silken jackets, “Odds On,” is a new Australian film. Apart from its well-contrived plot and romantic love story, the film is remarkable for its clever producing and its well sustained continuity. The action of the theme leads up to a thrilling climax in which horses and finance figure. LABOUR BALL.

The social attraction on Labour night in Greymouth will be the grand annual ball of the Labour Party at the Town Hall, at which an excellent series of prizes are being awarded to the winners of the dancing competitions. These trophies are on view today at Gilbert’s jewellery establishment in Tainui Street. The promoters have made the finest arrangements for music, supper and the dance floor, while the hall will be also appropriately decorated. A very large gathering is expected at the function, which should prove one of the most enjoyable ever held on Labour Day. MUNICIPAL BAND CONCERT. A capacity audience should greet the Greymouth Municipal Band at their entertainment to-morrow night. Class is the distinctive feature of tliis programme. The advent of Mr Harold Prescott is an event that will be hailed with delight by all lovers of high-class entertainment. Mr Prescott *is acclaimed as one of the premier tenors of New Zealand. The “Otago Daily Times,” writing of this artist, said that his singing enraptured and captivated the people in Dunedin. Mr Prescott s items will be “Onaway Awake,” “Once Again,” “Indian Serenade, ” and by special request the ever beautiful “My Pretty Jane,” the greatest of all tenor solos." Miss Rita Morgan, of Hokitika, one of our coming lady vocalists, will be heard to advantage in that sacred solo, “There is a Green Hill. Miss Bertha Adkins, one of the very foremost of Greymouth’s vocalists, will render that magnificent solo, entitled “Ah see tu dormi Svegliati” from the opera, “Romeo and Juliet,” and this is indeed, tv i’eal classic. llic items are the hymn, “Be By My Side,” “The Hallelujah Chorus” from the Messiah, both great works and devotionally rendered. The Oriental fantasia, “In a Chinese Temple Garden” is a fascinating piece of music. The descriptive fantasia, “/A Hunting Trip,” is a happy item. The operatic selection, “Carmen,” is a gem. The euphonium solo, “In Aly Old Kentucky Home,” by Bandsman L. Halls, cornet duet by Bandsmen A. Smith and L. Hall, entitled “Ida and Dot,’ and trombone solo “The Jigsaw” by W. Bell, are three fine items, and all have band accompaniments. As this is a class concert, patrons should show their liberality and support the local organisation. Don’t forget the Town Hall to-morrow at 8.30 p.m.
