Rev. J. Young, 8.A., of Reston, Canterbury,, is the guest of Rev. T. N. Cuttie.

Mr R. Cattermole, of the Kaiapoi Station staff, who has been transferred to Stillwater Junction, was, prior to his departure, presented with a leather travelling bag from the station staff and a shaving outfit from - the Druids’ Lodge.

The death has occurred at Nelson of Mr. William Thomas Richards, aged 85 years. Born at Bude, Cornwall, he arrived in New Zealand in the late ’sixties, and worked for Mr. Goldstein, draper, at Hokitika. In later years, deceased was mining at Arnold, Rutherglen and Kumara. He was well known in musical circles, and conducted the choir at Holy Trinity Church, Kumara, for many years. The late Mr. Richards is survived by five daughters (Mrs. D. Skilton, Papanui; Mrs. W. Andrews, Nelson; Mrs. G. Carruthers, Nelson; Mrs. R. Harper, Clive; Miss E. Richards, Christchurch), and three sons (Messrs. W. E. Richards, Hokitika; Percy Richards, Westland Hospital; and Fred Richards, Christchurch).

A presentation was made last evening to Mr H. Sansum, who has been transferred from the Public Works staff, Greymouth, to Nelson. Mr T. A. Johnston, District Engineer, in proposing the health of Mr Sansum, eulogised his good qualities which had popularised him with his fellow officers. On behalf of the staff he asked Mr Sansum to accept a leather suit case. Other officers to speak were Mr Curtis (Chief Clerk), Mr Cullen (Storekeeper), Mr Jones, Mi' Simmers, Mr Rowntree, Mr Huhne (Westport), and Mr Gower. Mr Sansum, in replying, said that he was sorry to leave the Greymouth district where he had made many good friends. Mr Sansum leaves for Nelson on Monday. Occasion was taken to welcome Mr Sansum’s successor, Mr R. Tregurtha.
