NGAHERE HALL. . The public meeting convened by the Ngahere Tennis Club, held on Thurs-' day evening, was largely attended. Mr Janies Mulcare was elected chairman, and Mr D. Faris was elected minute secretary. After the chairman had addressed the meeting at some length, Mr W. Ross, senr., moved and Mr McClure seconded, that the secretary write to the secretary of the hall committee asking him to call a public 'meeting within 14 days, and to produce a balance sheet, at that meeting, which •motion was carried. Mr S. Jennings moved and Mr E. Riddiford seconded, that in the event of the hall committee not calling a meeting within 14 days, a further public meeting be held in three weeks. This was carried. Mr Jennings moved and Mr E. Mulcare seconded that “a vote of thanks be accorded the chairman and secretary, which was carried. \ Mr Riddiford moved and Mr J. Mulcare seconded that the conveners of the meeting be thanked, and this was also carried. HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL. (Our Own Correspondent). HOKITIKA, October 12. The Hokitika Borough Council met last evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr G. A. Perry), Crs A. C. Armstrong, T. W. Duff, A. R. Elcock, E. W. Heenan, G. Heinz (jun.), J. King, E. Teichelmann, J. L. Turner. An apology was received from Cr D. J. Evans. The New Zealand Refrigerating Co. advised that 219 sheep, 1 lamb and 8 cattle had been delivered during August. The Sanitary Inspector, Greymouth, forwarded procedure to be followed prior to Council granting permission for installation of septic tanks. The State Eire and Accident Insurance Office, Wellington, wrote that the accident to J.. Walsh did not arise from in or out of their employment, and that there is no liability on the part of the Council. The Returned Soldiers’ Association wrote that the sum of £5O will be available to subsidise the employment of unemployed ex-service men. The Secretary of the Greymouth Watersiders’ Union applied for the use of Cass Square for their annual picnic to be held on the last Saturday of Januarv, 1930.—Agreed. M. Houston and Co., agent for Mr R. Adamson, applied for the subdivision of a number of sections in Davie and Jollie streets to Messis J> Stewart and J. R. Pedder.—Granted. It was notified that there had been one case of diphtheria, four household inspections and one drainage inspection. . The stock slaughtered for last month amounted to 6 cows, 23 heifers, 68 bul locks, 227 sheep, 14 pigs and 1 calf. The total fees were £57/10/, compared with £57/4/ for the corresponding month last year. Accounts. —The receipts amounted to £2138/4/2, payments £876/8/11,. andl the District Fund Account cr. £946/19/2. It was resolved that the Council meet monthly during the summer months.
