LIMERICK AGAIN AT WORK.

SYDNEY, September 27.

Limerick, contrary to expectations, is again in work. Trainer Jones hopes to state definitely on Tuesday whether Limerick will take part in the spring carnival.

BIG OFFER FOR PHARLAP.

SYDNEY, September 27.

Ten thousand guineas has been offered by a syndicate for the A.J.C. Derby and Melbourne Cup candidate, Pharlap, whose owner, Mr D. Davies, paid only 160 guineas for Pharlap as d yearling in New Zealand. TRACK AND STABLE NOTES The Greymouth owner, F. L. Turley scored a good win yesterday at Geraldine with Arch Arrow. The Arrowsmith six-year-old gelding was third favourite in a field of four in the Stewards’ Stakes and he won the six furlongs event comfortably by two lengths from the favourite, Stealth. Last season Arch Arrow started 24 times for six wins, two seconds and a third. On Thursday he ran second to Silver Coot over the same distance.

It is reported that J. Washington in addition to Reylet will bring the three-year-old Muri to the Greymouth Trotting Club’s meeting. Whether Daphne de Oro will come has not been definitely stated. Blimp ran well enough at Wanganui and Marton to suggest that he stands a good chance in a middle distance handicap while spring conditions prevail. Hoa, a two-year-old which is in G. Murray-Aynsley’s charge is by Martian from Contempt, and is the last of Martian’s progeny to figure on the turf.

The Wellington-owned Dancing Star, who was a disappointment last season, has had a long spell from racing, but is to be tried again shortly, and might be given her first run for the present season at Masterton next month. The American horseman, R. B. Plaxico, who is in charge of Mr. J. R. M’Kenzie’s team, continues to act as correspondent of the American ‘Horse Review.’ Not long ago he informed readers in his native land that in Llewellyn, a young trotter imported from America, he has the best bred horse in the country. Going further, he stated that the horse had not yet been tuned up, but had shown him a mile in 2.15. This has been reprinted in New Zealand papers, so that there was good support for Llewellyn in both starts at Geraldine, but he failed on both occasions. His next engagements are at Methven.

Dundas Boy has a host of supporters for the New Zealand Cup and on actual times registered, nothing will have better prospects than Mr. M’Millan’s chestnut, seeing that he went 4.22 last month, and will be on the front, 4.26, in the Cup. If he can repeat that run, and there is no reason why he should not, then the chances of the back-markers are not very bright, especially if .they are handicapped as they have been in the past. If Dundas Boy goes 4.22 again, it means that the majority in the race will have to do 4.20 or better, and that is a bit too much to expect. Those interested are commencing to tick off the possible field for the Dunedin Guineas and at least a dozen are regarded as possible starters, and in any case a good response seems assured. There is also every prospect of a very satisfactory field contesting the M'Lean Stakes. The committee of the Dunedin Jockey Club contemplate providing Wingatui with additional facilities for training, and with that object in view will pay a special visit to the course this week. The new track will be bn part of the schooling course. The Auckland three-year-old Eaglet has a great record Xliis season. She started off by winning a sprint handicap at Marton, and the following week captured the Wanganui Guineas, after which she returned home to win the sprint handicap at Avondale on Saturday and the Guineas yesterday. There is no room to doubt her brilliancy, and she will be a worthy opponent for Pink Coat in the Great Northern Guineas next month. There will be plenty of South Islanders, however, ready to support the South Canterbury colt. With 24 horses engaged in the N.Z. Cup it promises to be a great race even if two or three drop out beforehand. Ten horses in each heat would be as good as- could be wished for in such an event and it seems likely that that number will be just about right when the race starts. Amongst those eligible but not nominated are Pluto 4.24 4-5, Machine Gun 4.25 2-5, Black Admiral 4.25 2-5, Moneyspider 4.25 3-5 and Logan Chief 4.25 4.5. In such h race the absence will not be particularly noticeable. Pharlap is a three-year-old chestnut gelding by the South Canterburyowned Nightraid, from Entreaty. Mr. G. M. Simpson, of Greymouth, has been re-appointed handicapper to the Tnangah.ua Trotting Club.
