HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

HOKITIKA, September' 28. The Hokitika Borough Council met last evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr G. A. Perry), Crs T. W. Duff, D. J. Evans, A. R. Elcock, A. 0. Armstrong, E. Teichelmann, J. King, E. W. Heenan, G. Heinz. The Municipal Association, Wellington, wrote advising that the next conference of delegates will be held at Invercargill on Wednesday, March 5, 1930, and that yemits inusi reach the Secretary not later than November 5 ; also suggestin gthat when plant is ordered from Great Britain, local bodies should specify that country of origin of plant, etc., should be definitely stated by tenderers.

Mr J. M. Key wrote, applying, .for employment.—Referred to the P.W. Committee.'

Miss Esther Ward wrote thanking the Council for granting continued access to her property through Reserve No. 494.

Messrs Park and Murdoch applied to subdivide section 807, Stafford Street, by transferring approximately ten feet of the full width of the section to Mr T. W. Duff, owner of the adjoining section 808, to improve his frontage, and leaving section 807 with a frontage of 56 feet. —Approved. The Treasurer reported receipts amounting to £lOO7/7; payments £446 ; credit balance £l3B/2/1. Accounts amounting to £876/7/1 were passed for payment. A tender was received from H. Steel for leasing Borough Reserve No 533 at £4 per annum, plus rates. —It was resolved to accept the tender. KUMARA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The Kumara Borough Council met on Thursday evening, when there were present: The Mayor, Crs Murphy, Reedy, Stewart, Hamer, McDonald, McEnaney, Burrell. The Conservator of Forests wrote regarding monies due to the Blackwater Sawmilling Coy—Left in the hands of the Town Clerk. S. M. Case wrote applying for a license for a billiard room. Cr Murphy moved that the license be granted, subject to the approval of the Inspector of Buildings. Cr Reedy seconded. —Carried.

The Clerk, Westland County, wrote stating that he, together with the County Chairman, had been deputed to attend a conference respecting the condition of the Taramakau bridge. The Mayor said that the Grey County had been written to on the same matter, >,but no reply had been received. Resolved that the Town Clerk phone the Grey County Clerk to find out what decision had been arrived at. It was resolved that the Town Clerk lay on the table a list of those who had paid dog tax. Cr Hamer was granted three • months’ leave of absence.

Resolved, on the motion of Cr Burrell, seconded by Ci - McDonald, that the Hall Committee be written to asking- that an entertainment be given to assist in putting the Recreation Ground in order.

The Mayor moved, and Cx’ Burrell seconded, that the following rates foxthe yeai’ be struck: (1) A general rate of 2d in the £; (2) A hospital rate of Id in the £; (3) A special rate of Id in the £. Such rates to be on the capital value of the property now appearing oix the Valuation Roll, and that the same would be due and payable at the Town Clerk’s Office on October 1.. Further, that 10 per cent, be charged on all overdue rates. —Carried. Resolved that the Town Clerk write to Mr J. O’Brien M.P., v regarding Boroughs with a population of less than 6000, receiving a portion of the petrol tax.

Accounts to the amount of £299 18/5 were passed fox’ payment.
