DELHI, September 26. General Nadir Khan claims to have won a spectacular victory at Tirah oyei King Habibullah’s troops. It is believed that he is advancing on Kabul immediately. Meanwhile, Habibullah is not idle. With a full knowledge of the increased support available, his enemies are adopting innumerable inducements to the tribesmen to capture his leaders. The opposing forces are enduring iron discipline and great hardships. The British authorities are again experiencing great difficulties in preventing the tribesmen on the British side of the frontier from participating in the Afghan civil war. GENERAL BOILED IN OIL. CALCUTTA, August 17. Hazara tribesmen in Afghanistan have inflicted two crushing defeats on Habibullah Khan, the Amir of Kabul (formerly Bacha-I-Saqao, the brigand chief, at Sarchasma, thirty miles north of Kabul), and have captured a large amount of his ammunition. These tribesmen recently captured a general of Habibullah’s army and his staff, and boiled them in oil. Ahmed Ali, a step-brother of ex-King Amanullah, is fighting with the Hazaras against Habilullah. The Hazaras are also fighting the Suleiman Khel tribe, who are for Habibullah. Habibullah himself has frequently visited the Hazara front, endeavouring to make peace, and has offered the Hazaras pardon and reward if they will come over to his side. He is stated to have given them a peace offering of eight field-guns, which were immediately turned on his own troops. |
