(Australian Press Assn.) (By Cable—Press Assn—Copyright.)

ADELAIDE, August 28

Sloan Morpeth defeated Apperley in the amateur golf championship eight up and seven to play. Clem Hill, the famous international cricketer, refereed the Morpeth-Apperl ley match. Morpeth was three up at the end of the morning, his fine driving and clever iron play both compensating for his weak putting. Apperley was one up at the turn, Morpeth missing a two-foot putt at the sixteenth. The next was nearly halved in threes, Apperley with a magnificent mashie getting eight feet from the pin, bift missing his putt. Morpeth holed a sixfooter, and got a superb eagle at five hundred yards at the seventeenth. Morpeth got home in thirty-five strokes and did the round in seventy-six. Apperley took eighty. Taking the twenty-first with a birdie three, Morpeth was four up at the twenty-fourth, and he was six up at the twenty-eighth. The game now took a sensational turn. Apperley duffed hi>s drive in a drain, and was short on his second from a stance oh a footbridge. Then he laid a screaming brassie on the green almost three hundred yards away, and he holed a thirty-foot putt fQr a par four. Morpeth followed with a long drive, straight second, and was down with a twelve-footer for a birdie three. Apperley missed a short putt at the twenty-ninth hole, Morpeth thus winning the match eight and seven. Ryan beat Hattersly one up, and thus Ryan and Morpeth play the final to-moirow.
