MUNICIPAL INSURANCE
PROPOSED POOL BY COUNCILS. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, August 29. A far-reaching scheme of insurance was brought before the City Council, last night. It is proposed that all municipalities of New Zealand unite for the purposes of insurance under the Municipal Association of New Zealand, and that each body concerned enters into a contract to provide its proportion of financial guarantee, according to the basis to be arranged. The scheme means that all private company insurances would be dropped and all municipalities would pool their resources and risks in a common insurance combine of their own. The Mayor stated that had this been done ten years ago, a saving of £171,000 would have been effected in Wellington. The Municipal Conference has approved the proposals and as legislation is required a Bill has been drawn up which the Government will be asked to put through this session. The scheme was unanimously endorsed by the Council.
