MEETINGS
GREYMOUTH AUTOMOBILE ASSN. The monthly meeting of the Greymouth Automobile Association was held on Tuesday, when Mr G. Harker occupied the chair. An apology for absence was received from Dr. McKay. A letter was received from the Public Works Department in reference to the Coast road bridges and the dilatory manner in which the contractor has been progressing with the work which under the contract should be nearing completion, but are hardly started. It was decided on the motion of Mr Bunt that an urgent wire be sent the Minister of Public Works asking for the speedy completion of these bridges, and that arrangements be made to have the work completed before Christmas. Complaints have been made to the Association about the Railway Department keeping trains standing on the main highway at the station yard and it was decided to interview the station master about the matter. It was resolved to ask the Council to remove the Band Rotunda at the intersection of Herbert, Boundary and Mackay Street at the first opportunity as it is becoming a menace to traffic, obscuring visibility. It was also decided to ask for the removal of the seat at the intersection of Tainui and Mawhera Quay to another locality. It is suggested from the Association that the Borough Council be asked to give the matter serious consideration of cyclists’ rear end of mudguards-be-ing painted white to act as reflectors at night which are easily visible by motorists at night on our tarred roads. The annual meeting of the Association was fixed for Monday, September 9.
