LEAGUE FOOTBALL
WEST COAST CENTRE MEETING.
The weekly meeting of the West Coast Rugby League was held last evening, Mr L. Hunter, in the absence of the President, Mr J. D. .Winghain, being in the chair. Arising ■ from the minutes, in reference to the protest by Runanga juniors against Blackball having ■ played C. Leach, who played for the Brunner Club, members pointed out that any penalty would be applicable to the plaver and the Brunner Club, rather than to Blackball. It was generally allowed that there was no case against Blackball, as Brunner had played Leach without having had him transferred.
It was decided to award the Cup to Blackball, to refund the protest fee to Runanga, and that the player and the Brunner Club be censured for playing without first obtaining inenibeislnp registration. In a junior fixture, Runanga players dispersed because they were led to understand that Blackball, were not travelling to Runanga. Blackball subsequently attended at a cost of 25/, and the Centre agreed to reimburse the Club to that extent. The Canterbury League intimated that it was prepared to send a team to the Coast if a suitable date could be arranged. It was decided, to offei K.ep ternber 14 or September 21 as the dates, or the.following Sundays, if preferred. Ngahere Club’s junior team was reported by Mr W. Allen, referee, for not having a ball in the game against Blackball. In consequence the match finished two minutes after the Blackball ball was lost. Further, the Ngahere ground was not in a proper state of preparation. The Club was .fined 5/- for not having the ball. As Mr A’. Armstrong reported that both Nelson Creek and Marist Seniors were late in taking the held at Cobden on Sunday, but allowed that the foi mer waited for the latter, it was decided to fine Marist Club 5/-. Nelson Creek will be asked why its team did not go on the field at the proper time, whether Marist was there or not. The Blackball delegate reported that that club’s' senior team would be unable to field a team again this season. The reasons were that the senior thirteen had suffered casualties and members of the junior team refused to play in the higher grade, as they wished to stay Further, there weie lour members of the senior club who were playing Soccer as well as League and were unable to play both codes. A suggestion was put forward that an effort should be made to induce Blackball seniors to keep going for the rest of the season, as during .the next few weeks their luck might change. The Secretary was authorised to act upon the suggestion. Mr Warwick raised the point that Runanga thirds had been promised a trip by the Centre to Christchurch last year as a recognition of its fine record, but its fulfilment had been, deferred as other teams had had to go away. He asked that the Centre should substitute a contribution of £5 towards the team ,r oing to Christchurch this season. ° The request had been forwarded on to the Finance Committee for consideration, and the matter was left over pending a. reply from that body.
