IVO WHITTON’S SUCCESS.
(Australian Press Assn.) (By Cable—Press Assn.—Copyright.) ADELAIDE, August 23. The final of the open golf championship was won by Ivo Whitton for the fourth time. His score was 309. Eyre and ‘Stewart tie for second with 314. Other scores were: Bissett 318, Howard 319, Russell 321, Morpeth and Hattersley 322, Shaw 327, Mclntosh 328. Ivo Whitton is the open golf champion for the fourth time. He showed great form, doing the third round in 77, and the fourth in 79, his average being 309. He missed long putting by inches, and was unlucky. His wonderful drives were a feature of his play. Eyre and Stewart did 83 and 80,. Stewart made a remarkable recovery with a brilliant 73 in the third round, playing in foul weather. Eyre was weak at putting. Morpeth lapsed into errors, returning 85. He thus dropped from the lead to tenth.
