A REFEREE’S CAMPAIGN. Mr Eugene Corri, who is undoubtedly the greatest boxing referee in England has recently been saying some hard things about modern boxing. For some time past there have been an increasing number of disqualifications and stopped fights. Only a short time ago - Mr Corri stopped two important contests at the National Sporting Club, the home of English boxing, because the men were using open gloves. Mr Corri has announced that he intends to conduct a campaign to bring boxing back to its true form and prestige by stopping what he calls “the ridiculous ‘Pavlova’ dancing business and ‘flip-flap’ work with the open glove,” and he has warned boxers that in the future, when he referees a fight, it has to he a fight and. not a ballet dance. Mr Corri has carried on similar campaigns in the past, as, for instance, against kidney-punch-ing, and he has always won through in spite of much opposition.
