GRAIN AND PRODUCE. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, August 2. The potato market has not altered since the mid-week. The Waipiata’s heavy shipment, yesterday, was responsible for a subsequent lack of inquiry. Prompts were sold yesterday in an odd case or two at £7/15/-, and this morning at £7/17/6. AugustSeptember were ranging at £7/17/6 and £B, but this afternoon there was some revival of inquiry from the north, and business was being done at the higher figure. Prices to farmers range at £6/12/6 to £6/15/-. The Waipiata took 6600 sacks from Timaru and 3905 (including some seed) from Lyttelton. This full cargo was something of a surprise to a section of the traders, who anticipated that the impeding of deliveries on account of the wet weather and also the general scarcity would result in short arrivals for the boat. However, it is understood that all potatoes called for came to hand. The Kurow is booked to leave at the middle of next week. Between 800 and 900 sacks are being shipped to Sydney early in the week by the Karetu, these being for ships’ stores. The wheatpool price has been advanced in accordance with the monthly increment consequent on storage costs and Tuscan is now quoted by the pool at 5/4 f.o.b. There is very little non-pool wheat about, but at the moment there is little inquiry. Pool wheat was sold before the end of last month at 6/3 f.o.b. ' sacks extra. The nominal price of free wheat to farmers on trucks is 5/9 a bushel. The market is firm, the hardening abroad having an indirect influence in this respect. Fowl wheat has firmed during the week, being quoted at 5/8i to 5/9 f.o.b. for prompt. Oats are also a shade better, though little is doing. A Gartons are worth 3/5 f.o.b.s.i. and B’s 3/3 to 3/4. Chaff remains unaltered at £6/2/6 f.0.b..5.i., or £4/5/- on trucks. BUTTER AND CHEESE.
