COTTON INDUSTRY
NEW SITUATION ARISES. (Australian Press Association.) (By Cable —Press Assn. —Copyright.) LONDON, August 1. A new factor in the cotton situation has arisen owing to the Government’s inquiry. Meanwhile, the operative spinners, whose representatives have already indicated their willingness to accept the principle of reduction, but desire to negotiate as to the amount, have decided to refer the whole question to the districts concerned, and will meet again on Monday. The attitude of workers generally is summed up by the Weavers’ President, who wants the mills to re-open at the old rates and then hold a discussion to solve the difficulties. Courtauld’s have closed down the Nuneaton Artificial Silk Factory, employing fifteen hundred workers, until August 12, when the position will be reviewed.
