A London cablegram stated that th© late Earl Rosebery left £1,371,000, mostly to his son.
Mrs W. M. Richardson, of Oamaru, who is visiting the Coast, is the guest of Miss D. Strongman,. Cobden.
Mr G. Gillanders, Ruru, who has been an inmate of the Grey Hospita , was discharged to-day.
A cablegram from Paris stated that the operation on M. Poincare was successful and his condition is satisfactory.
A Sydney cablegram announced the death of Dr Walter Jeffrey Duffield, Director of the Commonwealth Solar Observatory, Canberra.
Mesdames W. Waugh and V. Hewison, and Miss E. Butler, all of Gladstone, will leave on Tuesday for a holiday in the North Island.
Miss V. R. Hughes, who has relinquished her position on the staff! of the Westport Primary School, left yes terday for New Plymouth, to join the staff of the primary school there.
Mr F. V. Dennehy, of the local Traffic Department, will leave on Tuesday on transfer to Burke’s, near Dunedin. Mr Dennehy has been the Secretary of the United Club for some time.
Mr G. Halliday, land purchase officer of the Public Works Department, arrived in Greymouth last evening, and left in company with Mr T. A. Johnston, district engineer, for Westport.
The death occurred at Auckland yesterday of Charles Frederick Buddle, aged 71, formerly senior partner in the firm of Buddle, Richmond and Buddle, barristers and solicitors. Press Assn.
The engagement is announced of Rosamond Jessie, daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert Scott of Puha, Poverty Bay, to'Mr . Norman Jones, of Greymoutli.
A Sydney cablegram announced the death of Mr F. Holmes, millionaire stock owner. He owned Sion, who finished second in the Epsom and the Doncaster.
Mr. T. Kelly, formerly a well-known resident of the Kamaka district, -who left the West Coast about twenty years ago, is revisiting the district. He now resides in Wellington.
Mr and Mrs P. Kortegast, who are leaving Hokitika next week for Christchurch, were farewelled by the parishioners of St. Mary’s, Hokitika, and presented with a 400-day clock. The members of St. Mary’s Choir presented Mr Kartegast wtih a pocket wallet.
Mr H. F. Vincent, of the linesmen’s branch at the Greymouth Post Office and a prominent member of the Greymouth Municipal Band, has received notice of transfer to Waimate, in a similar capacity. His place has been taken by Mr T. F. Gordon, of Waverley, who has commenced duties.
The death occurred at the Reef ton Hospital early this morning of Mr Frank Clerkin, an inmate for the past 11 years, suffering from rheumatic arthritis. He had been resident in the district since the early 80’s, and was employed for many years as an engine driver at the Energetic Mine. He was aged 58, single, and is survived by his brother, Jack, (North Island) and sister, Mrs Berti (Wellington).
