REEFTON NOTES

REEFTON, August 2
Mr C. Foley, of the staff . of the National Bank of New Zealand, has received notice of his transfer to Wellington, and will be leaving for that place shortly. The health of Mr Frank Clerkin, who is at present an inmate of the Reefton Hospital, is causing his friends some anxiety. Mr McCulloch, Government Auditor, is on an official visit to Reefton. The funeral of the late Mrs G. Doig took* place yesterday afternoon, and was attended by a large number of friends of the deceased, from Totara Flat; Greymouth and Reef ton. Rev. S. J. Webb, of Knox Church, conducted the services at the graveside. The Inangahua League Centre has submitted the following names to the selectors of the South Island representative League team, with a view to their selection:—C. . McElwee, W. King, A. McElwee, C. Curtis (Reefton), Smith , Burns, Davis, Woolhouse (W.iiuta). Mrs W. Dunn, of Shiels Street, still remains in a critical condition.
The Public Works Department has commenced the construction of a temporary bridge over the Maruia River at Williscrofts, on the Nelson-Reefton Road, via Maruia. This will be a boon to travellers, as the Maruia River is the only stream now unbridged on that route which is likely to be troublesome to motorists. It is expected that the work will take about three weeks to complete. Miss M. Duffy, of Christchurch, who has been visiting her sister, Mrs R. Pennington, of Shiels Street, returned yesterday. Tho rainfall recorded at Reefton for the month of July was 7.44 inches, with rain on 14 days, the heaviest fall being 2.22 inches on July 13. The fall for July, 1928, was 3.94 inches.
