Miss Hampton is spending her holidays in the North Island. Owing to the flooded state of the grounds at- Nelson, where the motor cycling events were to be held, Mr Doughty had to postpone his trip to Nelson.

Voting in Waiuta at the Council elections resulted as follows :—Council : Byrne 34, Clayton 19, Mclnroe 20. Hospital Board : Archer 20, Auld 21, Betts 20, Blackadder 24, Byrne 30, FJannigan 21, Mclnroe 30. McKane 25, O’Regan 18, Paine 17, Seawright 15, Watson 11, informal 2; total voters 42. ’

Over an inch of rain was registered on Friday morning, and the surrounding hulls were covered with snow. Low temperatures prevail, with leaden skies.
