RUGBY FOOTBALL

COBDEN CLUB’S MEETING

The annual, general meeting of the Cobden Rugby Football Club was held in the Fire Brigade Hall last evening, about thirty enthusiasts being present. An apology was received from Mr. H. R. Barrett.

The annual report and balance sheet was read and received as satisfactory. The election of officers for the coming season resulted as follows: — President: Mr. T. Gilmour (re-elect-ed). Vice-Presidents: Messrs D. T. Cochrane, H. R. Barrett, C. Chamley, Revs. W. Bell and J. A. Jermyn, Abbie & Ramage, Eggleton, W. Kells, F. Williams, T. Jones, C. K. Millar, J. Walker, G. Barbara, D. H. Hazeldine, A. Harrison, W. Inglis, J. Gordon, F. Mclntyre, Treasurer: Mr. F. W. Baillie. Hon. Secretary: Mr. E. N. Dewar. Auditor: Messrs Baillie and Gilmour. Delegate to Rugby Union: Rev. J. A. Jermyn. Club Captain: Mr. F. W. Baillie. Social Committee: Messrs N. Eggleton, Baillie, H. Spark, S. Hayden, D. Abbie, J. Hyndman, J. Keith, A. Lemin, H. G. Wilson. Mr. J. Beaumont who has been connected with the Club for many years, was elected a life member. A number of new players were elected members of the Club.

It was decided to nominate two junior teams and one fourth grade team. Some discussion took place on this question. It had been intended to nominate a senior team, but owing to th combined effect of some of last year’s junior players leaving the team through various causes and many of the new men who promised to play for the Club this season withdrawing their promises, this was found impossible. It was decided better in the interests of Rugby to nominate two strong junior teams than a single weak senior combination, many of the present members being too young for senior play.

The oppointment of Captains and selection committee was held over. It was decided to carry on the Club’s insurance scheme.

The first practice will be held on April 7. The delegate was instructed to approach the Rugby Union to have the fourth grade age raised to nineteen, and grade termed thirds. Mr. Baillie was appointed junior coach, and Messrs Hayden and Lemin fourth grade coaches.
