(Our Own Correspondent.) REEFTON, January 26.

The funeral of the late H. P. Jones took place yesterday, the cortege moving from Wesley Church to. the Suburban Cemetery. A large number of old friends paid their last tribute. Rev. T. W. Parsons rendered the services at the church and graveside. Mr J. H. Harkness, Mayor of Westport, was a visitor to Reefton yesterday. He left for Nelson by this morning’s car.

Hon. W. Veitch, Minister of Mines, will arrive here from Westport on Sunday and will be met by representatives of local bodies. He will be officially welcomed on Monday and will receive deputations at the County Council Chambers at 9 a.m. on Monday.

A party of twelve men, residents of the district, are leaving to-day for the Public Works at Tiriroa, in the Buller Gorge. They are to be engaged chiefly for quarry work on the extension of the Buller Railway to Inangahua Junction.

Hon. AV. A. Veitch will be present at the Motor Drivers’ picnic which he will visit when en route through the Buller Gorge to-morrow. At a sitting of the Magistrate’s Court at Reefton before Mr. Meldrum S.M. judgment for plaintiff by default was entered in each of the following cases: —E. McCaffrey v; George Sheary £l4/6/-, costs £2/16/-. Inangahua County Council v. E. A. Lemon £lB/1/-, costs £2/16/-. Inangahua County Council v. Jessie Blair, in respect to her separate estate. £2/16/10, costs £l/5/6. Inangahua County Council v. T. A. Blair, £3/2/6 and costs £1 5/6. Thomas Phillips v. Allen Coburn £3/0/9 and costs £l/3/6. Claude Mason for riding a bicycle after dark without a lamp was convicted and fined 5/-, costs 10/-. David William Robertson, Victor William Alborn, George Gregory Lockington, James Baker Harris, Julia Osborne, Martin Frederick King, William John Rivers, Matthew George Waddell and Alfred Wills, charged with being the owners of cattle found wandering on January 5, were each convicted and fined 5/- costs 10/-. At a sitting of the Warden's Court before Mr. Meldrum, Warden, the following applications were dealt with: — Reddale Collieries Ltd. *(in liquidation) for (1) Tramway License; (2) Way-leave, and (3) Special Site License, all situate in Blk. X., Reefton S.D. and objected to by Executors Estate George Lishman deceased. —Adjourned to February 7. 0. Moyle, J. J. Moyle and H. A. Honey for a Coal Lease over 19 acres 32 perches in Blk. XIV., Reefton S.D. —Recommended.

Progress Mines of N.Z. Ltd., Joseph Gardner; New Big River Gold Mining Co., Ltd., and John Alexander Morris, all for reduction of rents on claim licenses from 7/6 to 2/6 per annum per acre for one year from January 1. —Recommended.
