The English tennis players fared badly in the quarter finals of the Victorian championships, Gregory being the only player not eliminated. Hopman beat the English champion Austin 6-0, 2-6, 6-4, while Collins and Higgs were defeated by Schlesinger and Crawford respectively. Gregory beat Willard in straight sets. The Englishmen lost all the doubles matches. REEFTON CYCLING CLUB. The annual meeting of the Reefton Cycling Club took place in the Band Room on Wednesday evening. The Club Captain, Mr C. Coxall, occupied the cliair. The balance sheet showed, a credit balance and was adopted as satisfactory.

It was resolved that the Secretary write to the Greymouth Cycling Club asking them to participate in a club run to Totara Flat, where both clubs could meet and have team races etc., a Sunday preferred. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—Patron, Mr G. C. C. Black, M.P.; President, Mr D. Mines; Club Captain, C. Coxall (reelected); Secretary, A. G. Reid (reelected) ; Treasurer, J. A. Mclnroe, (re-elected); Handicapper, Mr J. Noble; Disputes Committee, Messrs D. Mines, C. Coxall, H. Spencer, G. Lockington; Time-keepers, Messrs J. Noble, J. Spillane, G. W. Osbourne; Vice-Presidents, the same as last year, with power to add. Member’s subscription was fixed at 7/6 senior and, if paid before end January, 5/-; under 16 years of age, 2/6. It was decided to hold the first race of the season, an open sweepstake, on Boxing Day, to finish on the Strand, if possible, distance twice around the Railway Station. It was also decided to hold the first race of the year on January 16, 1929, to Brazil’s and return, ten miles.

A motion was carried that in future all nominations be paid before handicaps are declared, otherwise the rider is ineligible to start.
