WORLD’S BOY SCOUTS
NEARLY TWO MILLIONS. In view of the world Scout jamboree to be held next year in England, at which Australia and New Zealand are, it is understood, to be represented, statistics v|eTe recently prepared, showing the world population of Boy Scouts to be 1,800,000. Mr Hubert, Martin, Director of tlie International Scout. Bureau in London, was recently in America, attending the fifth national training conference of Scout executives, and paid visits to Scout camps in the East and Middle West. The organisations in America now have a total personnel of 826,000. The international census shows a total of 1,290.136 for Scouts, 257,884 for leaders, -11.776 for Rovers, and 171,401 for Wolf Cubs, the latter names being used in several countries, mainly Brit-
ish, lo denote activities for older and younger boys, respectively. It also shows 7915 Sea Scouts for those countries where such groups are enumerated. ! The Boj- Scouts of America have no divisions such as Rover or Wolf Cub, so that, based on membership of Scouts and leaders alone, more than half of the total membership is in the United States. The American organisation is now developing a programme for younger boys. Forty-throe nations are represented in the Scout roster. Dividing the British Empire into its various geographical sections raises the number of participating countries. Mexico, Cuba and Persia are recent additions. Countries with the larger Scout membership include England, China, France, Czecho-Slovakia, Japan, Norway, Hungary, Irak, Denmark, Belgium, Poland, Spain, Sweden, and Rumania.
