Rebel Shinwari tribesmen again attacked Jellalabad, but were repulsed by the Afghan garrison after a fierce fight, in which there were several hundred casualties. The buildings previously wrecked in the city by the tribesmen’ include the British post office and civil service quarters. Many new cars and lorries the property of the State, were burned. The road from Peshawar to- Jellalabad is infested with raiding gangs, and is unskfe without escorts. Afghan reinforcements are hurrying to the area for an advance against the wild tribal country.
