WAIUTA NOTES

Mr John Maldi met with a serious accident on Saturday afternoon- While engaged in cutting firewood his leg became jammed between two logs, resulting in a compound fracture of the left leg at the ankle. Tie was conveyed to the local hospital and later to the Reefton Hospital, where he is progressing as well as can be expected.
A meeting of the Domain Board was held on Friday evening. There were present: Messrs J. A. McEwin (chairman), T. R. Hogg (secretary), R. M. Hempseed, T. Thorn, E. J. Fitzgerahl, J. Green and M. Kennedy. A deputation from the Public Tennis Club was received, consisting of Messrs P. H. Jones and C- Lewis. The proposal to commence excavating another court was discussed- A good deal of routine business was transacted.
The opening contest for the Pratt Cup was played at Reefton between Reefton and Waiuta cricket teams. The former won by an innings and 131 runs. Reefton made 254. J. Collins taking three wickets for 30. Waiuta made 95, top scorer being llalman 43. In their second innings Waiuta made 28 runs. This week-end Waiuta and Totara Flat meet at Waiuta.
A lad, Colin Crowe, met with a. painful injury on Tuesday, while engaged in chopping firewood. He cut. some of his fingers with the axe. After treatment at the local hospital he was taken to Beefton for further treatment, after which he returned home.
