- — (Per Press Association.) ACCOUNTANT ACQUITTED. NAPIER, November 8. The hearing of nine charges alleging forgery and obtaining credit by fraud and false pretences against Hercules Robert Hunter, accountant for the Bank of New Zealand, was concluded this afternoon. The jury deliberated for a little over an hour and returned a verdict of “Not guilty” on all counts. GIRL’S CHARACTER. AUCKLAND, November 9. Mr Platts, S.M., delivered reserved judgment in the Tnrua affiliation case, Elvin v. Schmidt, in which he said the defence was regrettable for the amount of slander and perjury. He was satisfied the defendant, Laurie Schmidt, and his witness had sworn falsely, when attempting to blacken the girl’s character. He entered judgment for 15/- a week, plus back maintenance, and birth expenses. Security for appeal was fixed at £35.
