HURLEY’S FLIGHT

AN ARDUOUS JOURNEY DODGING THE STORMS (United Service.) (By Cable—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Recd. November 10, 11.30 a.m.) DELHI, November 9. Hurley in a message from Victoria Point says: Hazard, head winds and hard work have characterised every mile of th'e flight to date. It is not possible to load the heavy machine with more than half the capacity, thus compelling a series of shorter stages. “Monsoonal rains and dense clouds were encountered over Sumatra. We were forced out to sea, from where we had fleeting glimpses of magnificent clouds, and shrouded scenery. Dodging between the storms, we have encountered only £wo possible landings since leaving Batavia, and have sincere admiration for all who have preceded us. Now we are giving the machine a rough overhaul, while fire flies trace their glowing flight, and hordes of natives look on. Conditions from Calcutta are established and we will be able to undertake long stages. We still have one day reserve for the forward journey, but with the experience gained, we must look for records on the return journey.”

ARRIVAL AT RANGOON DELHI, November 9. Hurley arrived at Rangoon at 5.15 this afternoon. , BRITISH PLANES’ TOUR. MANILA, November 9. Four British planes, commanded by Commander Cave-Brown-Cave, who recently visited Australia, arrived here to-day for a stay of seven days.
