A meeting of the West Coast Farmers’ Union Executive was held on Saturday, at which Mr J. Mulcare presided, and there was a good attendance of farmers. Mr John Murdoch, of Ross, manager of the West Coast Farmers’ Co-operative Lime Company, was also present. Mr Mulcare outlined the financial position of the Company, and pointed out that the sales were not sufficient to wipe out existing liabilities and provide for current expenditure. If something were not done at once to relieve'the position, the works would have to be closed. It was agreed that the poor support given by the farmers and lack of organisation, had been the chief factor in bringing about the present condition of affairs. The liabilities were £l5OO, and the cost of producing the lime was about £1 per ton. The lime was good, but at £2 5s per ton the farmers considered the price too high. The Manager (Mr Murdoch) stated that if the sales could be built up to average twelve tons of burnt lime a day, the company could wipe out its present liabilities in two years. A committee consisting of Messrs A. McDonnell, H. G. Carter, W. Clayton, W. Butler, Thomas and J. Mulcare

was set up to- go into the Company s position, and report later to a meeting of shareholders.
