MORPETH’S GOOD WIN

At the N.Z. Golf Championships there was a considerable improvement in the weather for Jhe second day’s play. Rain fell overnight, and this had a beneficial effect on the fairways and greens, which was much appre[ciated by the players. In the morning there was a stiff southerly breeze, which freshened considerably to the detriment of the late morning starters and the early afternoon starters. The third and fourth rounds of the open championships were played. The present leader of the amateur championship came out with flying colours, securing a meritorious win by two strokes. The O’Rorke Vase teams match was won by the Otago team, consisting of K. Ross, G. F. Barnett, S. C. Coibeck and D. Butcher, with an aggregate of 318. Hutt was second with 326. The Jellicoe Cup resulted in a tie between T. H. Horton and L. S. Douglas, and this is the first occasion that a professional has had an interest in the cup. The amateur players having aggregates of 343 or better qualify for the amateur championship.
