In connection with the Horan affair, “Le Journal” reports' the arrest of a man in a high social position, who previously assisted the secret police. Other allusions were madp to a person having relations with highplaced persons in the Foreign Office, who also held a position in America. It is understood that among the names supplied by Horan to the police is the name of a woman. “Le Matin” says that one of the suspects has fully confessed. The “Excelsior” alleges that Horan paid £2OOO for the incriminating document. ■ HORAN’S ADMISSIONS. (Australian Press Association.) LONDON, October 12. The “Morning Post’s” Paris correspondent says: It is believed that a statement, signed by Mr Horan at the Prefecture on Monday, showed that he took a much more prominent part in securing the document than has heretofore been supposed. The “Morning Post” states the Paris police detained and questioned two Frenchmen, said to be Government officials, whom Mr Horan named in a statement on Monday. It is believed also that he named a French journalist as an intermediary. BRUSSELS, October 11. Mr Horan complains that he was arrested in Paris like any criminal. He refuses to return.

A NJSW TORPEDO.

The Admiralty’s submarine experts to-morrow will witness the secret trials of a Chilean destroyer built at Thorneycrofts, and equipped with the latest and fastest 21-inch torpedo, which has a speed of 45 knots, and will include angle-firing, one of the marvels of recent developments in using instruments to operate a torpedo’s course, whereby, if a ship dodges a torpedo it turns correspondingly. The 600-ton submarine Ondine, wfhich was on a test cruise from Cherbourg, and should have arrived at Bizerta today, has not been sighted, and has not been reported since her departure on October 1. She carries a crew of forty-two. SUNK BY STEAMER. (Recd. Oct. 13, 9.57 a.m.) LONDON, October 12. It is ascertained that a Greek steamer sank the French submarine Ondine, with three officers and forty men, off Oporto, on the night of October 3.
