REEFTON, October 13. The funeral of the late James Scarlett took place yesterday afternoon, the cortege moving from deceased’s late residence to St. Stephen’s Church, where a sflwrt service was held. As the casket was moved from the church, Miss Doreen Walsleben, organist, played “The Dead March’’ from Saul. The funeral proceeded to the Suburban Cemetery, where the last rites weie rendered by Rev. J. W. BJoyce, vicar of St. John’s Church, Westport, who journeyed to Reefton specially for the funeral. There *was a large attendance of friends present from Greymouth and Reefton districts. Mr Charles Neville, Government Veterinary, of Hokitika, was a visitor to Reefton yesterday, en route to Westport. Mr Harcourt Werry, son of Mr and Mrs A. Wetrry, of Reefton, has had to enter a private hospital at Wellington for surgical treatment, and underwent an operation there this week. Mrs Werry went to Wellington on Tuesday and later repotrs state that the patient has come through the operation very well.
