WICKED DEAUVILLE
“QUEEN BEE” AS CENSOR. Gay and wicked Deauville, the famous Continental resort, has appointed a moral censor. They call her the “Queen Bee. She weeds out the undesirable women and allows in the gambling casino only adventuresses with good characters. Here, where millions change hands nightly over the green-topped tables at baccaret or chemin-de-fer, gather beautiful women from every country in the world, seeking easy fortune in return for smiles. in the. code'of moral censor manhunting requires capital. She has been put on the casino’s payroll to prevent too much scandal, and obviate that most disagreeable happening, a call by the police. She knows faces of almost all men and women who frequent the place. She is able to pick out those who would steal a purse, and orders them out. There are strict rules for preying on the idle rich, and she insists that they should be obeyed. Some visible means of support is the chief asset of a fortune-hunting woman in Deauville. She must be elegantly gowned, attractive and equipped with sa.voir faire. She must never .take a. pocketbook. She must have it given to her. There must bo no police scandal, but almost everything else is tolerated. Actresses, artists, society women, and adventuresses are under (he censor’s watchful eye. All must have cards of admittance and must do nothing to “hurt the reputation of the house.” . :
