MEANS OF SUICIDE
REQUEST FOR SECRECY.
(Special to “Star.”)
CHRISTCHURCH, October 1
The Justice Department has asked Coroners to request the Press not to publish the means which caused death, in suicide and other cases. The Department states that when the means of death is published after inquests, there appear, to follow numerous cases of death througjh the same cause.
“That seems to have been the case recently,” said the Coroner (Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M.) after giving his verdict in a suicide case this morning. “Where one means has been used, and the method is published, other cases have followed. We want to stop that sort of thing if possible, and I therefore request the Press to observe the ■wishes of the Justice Department.”
