RUNANGA NOTES

■ (Our Own Correspondent.) Great disappointment was felt locally on Thursday when it vvas known that the Liverpool Mine would again be idle on Friday. It was expected from information received from various sources that the mine would be working full time till Christmas. A few energetic gentlemen' have formed a Scouts Corps here, which is being largely attended by the younger generation. It is felt by those in control that a few helpers are needed to carry on the good work. The Westmoreland and Cumberland Association membership is steadily on the increase. Close on one hundred were present at the last social evening, when a presentation, took place to one of its members, Mrs R. Gallon, who left for the Old Country, by the Corinthic last Tuesday. The local sports bodies are reminded that the Borough Council is sparing no effort to have the local Domain in first-class order for next season. The past few weeks have seen a great alteration, it being topdressed, rolled, and first-class drainage installed. The Bowling Club held their general meeting in the Club House on Wednesday night, Mi- J. Rae (President) being in the chair. There was a large attendance of members. A lengthy discussion regarding a date for the opening of the green took place and it was ultimately decided to open the green on October 27. Much progress has been made during the close season, and the green is looking better now than any other time in the Club’s history, due entirely to the work of the management committee, who have worked all the close season, enthusiastically, to have the green in perfect condition on the opening date. Mr Halliday is carrying on the duties of secretary, owing to the absence of Mr Wm. Warburton, who is still detained in the North Island. The Rewanui Soccer Club, which won the Westland Competition is composed mostly of local lads, and in the Medal Competition, it looks as if the local seniors will be the winners as they are now in the final. The. players are putting in an extra bit of]

training for this game, as the defeat of last year still ranks uppermost, in their minds. The Senior League team has been a great disappointment, this season, but the third graders are giving them a few hints on how the game should be played. They have not lost a game and are the proud possessors of two trophies so far this season. Mr S. Thomas believes in getting’ the young players together, and has Io Im complimented on this team's display throughout the season.
