PLUNKET CARNIVAL

A FINE DISPLAY. The Greymouth Plunket Society’s Carnival Bazaar was continued last evening, when the Municipal Band were in attendance. / Adverse weather conditions perhaps accounted for the poor attendance of citizens, which was below expectations. The Town Hall presented a pretty scene, in keeping with the spirit of the Carnival. Coloured electric lights decorated each stall, and a festoon was hung around th’e dress circle. The tastefully decorated stalls are lined round the walls, first the Advisory Board s display of serviceable yet cheap articles ranging from a tin of boot polish to a bag of sugar. Next is the sweets stall, loaded with all the most desirable delicacies to tempt a sweet tooth, which are served bv ladies prettily attired in red and while caps and aprons. In one corner is the work stall, resplendent with beautifully worked articles of wear and domestic use, enticingly lowpriced. Vegetables and cakes abound in the next stall, which should be the Mecca of the gastronomicaly inclined, and the vegetarians. Perhaps receiving the most patronage, at present, is the jumble stall, full to overflowing with wonderful bargains in books and articles of apparel, all in good Order. To-day the Society expects Greymouth citizens- to grace their Bazaar, to-night and to-morrow day and night, when the Carnival concludes. The ladies have collected together much material, from which the most fastidious patron may be satisfied, and expect in the final days of their effort whole-hearted support from town and country. To-night the Bazaar will be opened with selections by the Municipal Band, which should alone draw a good many revellers to the Town Hall. To-night the side-shows will be a specility. Seldom before lias “Come to the Fair!” rung out in a more worthy cause.
