Mrs A. Rutledge (State collieries), is seriously ill at Wallsend.

Mr J. W. Mawson, the newly-appoint-ed Director of Town Planning, has airived in Wellington.—-Press Assn.

Mr J. A. C. Bayne, Chief Inspectoi’ of Mines, arrived yesterday from Wellington.

Miss A. H. Cookson, who for eight years, has been matron of Whanga.rei Hospital, has been appointed matron of the Wellington Hospital.

The resignation of Nurse A. Goodrich was accepted at the meeting of the Grey Hospital Board last evening.

The death is announced from London of Sir Henry Wickham, formerly an explorer in Australia and South America. He was born in 1846.

Mr Wyvern Wilson, S.M., of Hamilton, returned to Auckland by the Aorangi. He has been on a' six months’ visit to England, Scotland and France.

Mr Charles E. Bonner (J. C. Williamson, Ltd.), arrived from Christchurch last-evening to make arrangements for their West Coast tour.

At the meeting of the Grey Hospital Board last evening, Mr J. W. Hannan (Chairman), moved that Mr J. P. Irvine be granted three months leave of absence, and that the sympathy of the Board be extended to him in his present illness. The motion was seconded by Mr Harker, and carried unanimously.

The Rev. Daniel James Murray, 77, died yesterday at his residence Mt. Roskill. He had over forty years’ active service in the New Zealand Methodist Ministry, besides doing much secretarial financial work for that church. From 1897 to 1901, he was secretary of the conference and president in 1902. —Press Assn.

The death of Mr Tilghonan S. Cooper, a prominent Jersey breeder of Coopersberg (Pennsylvania), occurred in Wellington this morning, after three weeks’ illness. He was aged ‘ 79, and was one of the greatest Jersey breeders in the world. Recently he brought to New Zealand, a selected shipment of Jerseys. —Press Assn. The estate of the late Mr J. H. Coleman, sheep farmer, of Napier, has been sworn at approximately £300,000. The major portion of the estate is left to relatives. A fine collection of paintings and pictures is bequeathed to the Auckland Art Gallery, the sum of £5O annually is given to encourage rifle shooting, in which Mr Coleman had always been interested, and £lOO a year is given to the Napier Salvation Army Home, to the Girls’ Friendly Society, and to the Hawke’s Bay Children’s Home. It is believed that deceased, who -was a liberal contributor to charitable objects during his lifetime, expressed a wish that after his death his family should have the benefit of his estate. The majority of the residue is left to a daughter-in-law, a daughter, and grandchildren.— Press Assn.
