At Montreal the New Zealand bowlers, in the course of their Canadian tour, defeated St. George Club by SI to 77. ,

The annual general meeting of the Westport Bowling Club was held on Thursday evening. The President, Mr. P. A. Struthers occupied the chair. The annual report and balance sheet were presented and adopted. It w;is resolved that a letter be sent to the Borough Council and also to the Progress League, asking them to give their support to Mr. Sidey’s Local Daylight Saving Bill. At the election of officers tor the ensuing year, Mr. P. A. Struthers, who was nominated for re-election as President, declined to accept nomination. As no other member present would accept, the meeting was adjourned for a week.

At Newport, John Vanryn, of Princeton, defeated Crawford 6-2, 6-4, 46, 7-5. Vanryn is a former Princeton tennis captain. He eliminated Crawford in a gruelling match. Vanryn today played brilliantly, especially in the first two sets, which he won comparatively easily. Crawford then broke through his opponent’s service. Vain ryn appeared tired. Crawford played his characteristic game. Then Vanryn regained his strength, and won with smashes at the net which upset Crawford. The winner’s placements were also well executed, and his deep court game was excellent. At Newport Cummings and Moon defeated Aydatatte and Coggeshall 7/5, 8/6. Lott defeated Mangin 6/2, 9/7, 7/5. BASKET BALL. AUCKLAND, August 24.The basket ball contests resulted: — Hawke’s Bay beat Southland by 16 to 8. Otago beat Canterbury by 26 to 9. Auckland beat Taranaki by 43 to 3. LEAGUE TEAMS. The following team will represent Runariga, seniors against Greymouth, on Sunday:—Tallentyre, Currie, W. Timlin, O’Brien. Hardie, Hands, Purnell, Stevens, Oust, Hambley, Freeman, Hawkins and Harrison.
