THEATRE FAILURE

“MERRY MASCOTS” DISBANDED.

» (Special to “Star.”) AUCKLAND, August 11. Bill posters of “The Merry Mascots” still adorned the portals of the Embassy Theatre yesterday morning. Rather ironically, the entrance was hung with, black cats, swatikas, and other emblems of good luck, but there was no performance of the company, • the management controlling the destinies of the theatre having decided to go into voluntary liquidation to a~ number of artists under contract of the company. This has entailed serious hardship. From their hands fluttered no streamers, nor did they share in the gaiety of their fellow artists with the “Mercenary Mary” company, when the Ulimaroa swung out from the central wharf yesterday for Sydney. Meantime, a comjnittee of creditors are carrying on the theatre again as a picture show. The original capital of tho company was £4500, divided among fifteen shareholders. All /will be heavy losers. Liabilities amounting to approximately £9OOO were assumed at the outset, and one creditor, who is also a debenture holder, is still said to be owed £5OOO.
