The Civic Commissioners have,decided not to accept Silas Maling’s resignation, dated June 1, but have dismissed him as from the date of his suspension from the position of Deputy-Manager of the City’s Electricity Department. The Commissioners have also instructed the civic authorities to demand the deposit by Maling into the city funds of the sum of £10,600, which was said to have been received by him as a secret Commission in connection with the contract for the supply of certain plant. The City Solicitor has been instructed to obtain an opinion regarding the recovery of money from other persons concerned.
One of the Civic Commissioners, Mr-Morton, stated that a Judge would be engaged for the next six months in sifting the Sydney civic scandals, and the Civic Commissioners will ask that the one Royal Commission conduct all the inquiries.
