HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL (Our Own Correspondent.) HOKITIKA, June 23. The Hokitika Council met 1W evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr. G. A. Perry). Crs. Jas. King. A. R. Elcock. T W. Duff, E. W. Heenan, A. C. Armstrong, E. Teichelmann, G. Heinz. First a special meeting of the Council was held to deal with the motor regulations The motion of last meeting, the centre of Weld Street a. parking place, was rescinded, and the south side was substituted by 5 votes to 4, and that the speed of cars along Revell Street be ten miles. Parking places were also fixed. The ordinary meeting was then held. A request from the Committee of No. 2 Scout Troop to build a shed on the beach at the rear of Mr. Preston’s shop was granted. The district engineer wrote stating that £1 for £1 subsidy for relief works for unemployed would be granted. It was resolved to grant £3/3/- to entertaining farmers of Otago when visiting here. The secretary, Hokitika Harbour Board wrote complaining that rubbish deposited at the Municipal dump is not being placed below the tide mark. The Borough Inspector reported having visited the scene and posting a notice. It was resolved to offer £5 reward to anyone giving information leading to the conviction of person or persons depositing rubbish on the beach. '

The representative, No. 12 District Highways Council wrote forwarding blue print of troffic signs required on main highways, and intimating that Highways Board will subsidise the cost of erection of the sign posts.— Cr. Evans to make enquiries when in Wellington. The secretary Hokitika Fire Brigade forwarded report on fire plugs, and indicating necessary alterations and improvements.—To be attended to. J. J. Breeze wrote offering to lease a small piece of ground alongside the right of way at rear of the Dominion.—Referred to the Reserves Committee to report. Accounts amounting to £460/2/8 were passed for payment. The Treasurer reported receipts £764/5/7. Payments £B6/15/1. Credit balance £1,253/16/0.
