ST. PAUL’S CHURCH

The first Methodist Church at Greymouth, St. Paul’s, was opened in March, 1868, on the site of the present fine brick building, by the Rev. J. T. Shaw. The old building was of wood and iron, and seated 275 persons; it is still standing—although the traces of its lengthy service are very apparent-—alongside the new building, and is used for various purposes in connection with church work. Even before the first church was erected, services were conducted at Greymouth by the Rev. J. T. Shaw, at the Religious Institute, afterwards the old Town Hall; and, before that, by the Rev. W. Cannell, in the concert room attached to the Victoria Hotel. Rev. G. E. Brown is the present minister.
