ON MELBOURNE’S MARKET. ' MELBOURNE, February 12. The glut of fruit in Melbourne markets this season is the heaviest on record. Usually there'are some classes of fruit in moderate supply, and for which a fair price can-bo asked, hut now there is an excess oven of bananas and pineapples. It was estimated at the close of the sales on Saturday that about 35,000 cases of fruit of all descriptions were on hand, anef, as most of it was ripe, a large quantity had begun to Tot by to-day, and will have to bo destroyed. Inferior fruit of all kinds has have been offered at exceptionally low prices. Peaches, and plums have been unsaleable, as choice grades been offered at 1/- a case without finding buyers. Tomatoes, grapes and apples have been sold at to 5/a case for first quality.
