NELSON LAND BOARD

A meeting of the Nelson Land Board was held on Thursday. Present: Mr A. F. Waters, Commissioner of Crown Lands (Chairman), and Messrs W. C. Mirfin, G. MacMahon, and J. O’Regan. Leave of absence from this meeting was granted to Mr A. R. Edwards. The Commissioner reported that a poll had taken place on December 20, 1927, for the election of a member of the Board and had resulted as follows:—J. W. Hodgkinson 42 votes, John O’Regan 330, James Pagan 155, J. H. Powell 162. Number of valid votes 689. Number rejected as informal 61. Total number of votes recorded 750. The Commissioner and members welcomed Mr O’Regan, the successful candidate on taking his seat for the first time. It was resolved, on the occasion of the first meeting of the Nelson Land Board after the termination of Mr Robert Patterson’s term of office, he having decided not to stand for re-elec-tion, to put on record the high, appreciation of the Commissioner and members of the valuable service rendered by Mr Patterson as a member of the Board during the past 14 years, and of the ability and experience which he brought to its counsels at all times during his long period of office. Applications for Land.—Mr Michael Shine applied for an Occupation License over an area of approximately 400 acres of pakihi land situated in Black IV Waitakere S.D.—Resolved to issue an Occupation License at an annual rental of £2. Crown Land on the banks of the Wai-iti River, area approximately 2 acres. Applicant, William Sampson. —Resolved to issue an Occupation. License at an annual rental of 10/-. Mr J. W. Hodgkinson applied for the issue of a Pastoral License Title to him over Section 17, Block 11., Tutaki S.D., containing an area of 373 acres.—Resolved to issue a Pastoral License as from 1/1/28 at an annual rental of £9 7/6, provided Mr Hodgkinson indemnifies the Crown against any expenditure for road acccss» Lands to be opened.—Section 16, Block IX., Otumahana Survey District. Area 497 acres. Cap. Value £250. Formerly held by W. H. Ladbrook.— Resolved to offer for selection on Renewable . Lease at a capital value of £lB6 7/6, weighted with £230 for improvements. Miscellaneous. — The Inangahua County Council forwarded proposals for the expenditure of Thirds accrued to 30/9/27 and amounting to £4O 9/5. —Approved. The Riwaka Road Board forwarded proposals for the expenditure of thirds etc., accrued to September, 1927, and amounting to £6 19/4. —Approved. The Board also dealt with 1 application to transfer, 6 miscellaneous, j application for land, 1 application for extension of term of license, 1 renewal of small grazing run, 3 surrenders, 5 forfeitures, 1 cancellation, 1 schedule of interest to be remitted on postponed rent of Discharged Soldier Settlers mortgaged to the Crown under the Discharged Soldiers’ Settlement Act and 17 applications foi relief under the Deteriorated Lands Act, 1925.
